Combining traditional techniques with the architectural design of an architect, Portuguese jewelry brand Luisa Rosas makes its debut at Isetan Shinjuku.

Event Date:2021.02.17-03.02
Feb 10, 2021
Luisa Rosas made its Asian debut in September 2020 with a store at Ginza Mitsukoshi. Starting February 17th, a pop-up shop will be opening at the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building, 4th floor jewelry section. Luisa Rosas was born into a family of Portuguese goldsmiths that has been in business for five generations. She worked as an architect under Álvaro Siza, Portugal's leading international architect, before switching to the family business of jewelry design in 2008 and launching her own brand, Luisa Rosas. Based on the concept of "harmony in nature," Luisa Rosas' designs are inspired by the repetition and patterns of natural structures.

Inheriting Filigree Techniques and the Architectural Designs of a Designer

She actively incorporates the "filigree technique*," a thriving craft in Portugal, into her jewelry designs, contributing to the preservation of Portuguese craftsmanship. In December 2020, she opened an atelier and museum where people can learn traditional techniques to preserve the art of filigree for future generations.

Even with the delicate designs that only an architect can achieve, she pays attention to even the smallest details, such as ergonomics, ensuring comfortable one-handed donning and doffing. * Filigree technique: A technique in which materials are thinned to create patterns, then welded together to create a shape.
A jewelry buyer at Isetan Mitsukoshi fell in love with the brand, and it made its Asian debut in 2020.

In 2019, I discovered Luisa Rosas at the jewelry trade fair "Vicenza Oro." I was fascinated by her designs, techniques, and creative approach. I really wanted to introduce her to Japan! I tried to convince her to open a store at Isetan Mitsukoshi, but it never came to fruition.

When she visited Vicenza Oro again in January 2020, she once again expressed her enthusiasm, and in September 2020 she exhibited at Ginza Mitsukoshi, marking her first appearance in Asia. Luisa Rosas and Isetan Mitsukoshi have formed a partnership, and the brand's products can now be seen exclusively at Isetan Mitsukoshi.
