Momoko Ando photo exhibition at Shinjuku Isetan. Includes fictional girls' rooms.

Oct 14, 2014

The Mochiie Girls Project, a collaboration between Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings and Mitsui Fudosan Residential, will host a photo exhibition focusing on five Tokyo-based women at the Isetan Shinjuku store, along with merchandise for sale in a "Tokyo Girls' Room" designed to resemble a single-person apartment, at Center Park/Stage #5 on the fifth floor of the main building. The exhibition runs from October 15th to October 28th.

The photography for this photo exhibition, "one "1" woman living in Tokyo," was handled by film director Momoko Ando. Models included contemporary artist Haruka Kojin, Japanese dancer and Fujima-ryu master Ransho Fujima, food producer and chef Kae Terawaki, actress Azusa Nakazawa, and model agency manager Yu Fujimoto. Ando selected the five women because of their ongoing pursuit of and communication of their own lifestyles and creativity. All photography took place in their homes and studios.

In addition, in the space adjacent to the photo exhibition, a "Tokyo Girls' Room" will be exhibited. This room is modeled after the room of a woman who works, plays, and lives in Tokyo, and the exhibition will be divided into two halves, each showcasing a woman's room with a different personality. The first half (October 15th to 21st) will feature the room of "Wagamichi-san," whose hobby is flamenco and who is not good at organizing, while the second half (October 22nd to 28th) will feature the room of "Hibi Teinei-san," whose hobby is cooking, whose motto is to eat three meals a day, and who likes to invite friends over to her house.

In the exhibition room, miscellaneous goods and accessories that could be found in that room will be exhibited and for sale. Wagami's room is stocked with items for relaxing on the sofa, such as a patchwork multi-cover (100,000 yen) and cushion cover (8,000 yen) from U.C.TILE FABRICS, and a goat leather ottoman Lila (35,000 yen) from DEARMOROCCO.

Hibi Teinei's room is stocked with kitchenware, such as a cherry blossom bowl (4,800 yen) from ki-nari/Murakami Keiichi, an oxymoron plate (small size/2,100 yen) from Yumiko iihoshi porcelain, and a Navajo pattern apron (6,500 yen) from BasShu.

During the exhibition, a talk event will be held at the same venue (from 2pm on October 18th) with the exhibition's photographer Momoko Ando and curator Shigeo Goto.

The Mochiie Girls Project is a project aimed at fostering a culture in which women can shine more powerfully than ever before by owning their own home, amid a recent increase in the number of single women purchasing newly built condominiums. It is endorsed by Mitsui Fudosan Residential. Its activities are also published on the "Mochiie Girls Web" and on the Facebook page "Mochiie Girls Park".
