Vantablack dial. A "fully mechanical watch" inspired by H. Moser & Cie.'s contemporary design.

Feb 4, 2021
H. Moser & Cie. has announced the Swiss Alp Watch Final Upgrade, the final model in the Swiss Alp Watch collection, which has captivated enthusiasts since 2016.

In response to the rise of connected watches, the Swiss Alp Watch was launched to demonstrate the need for H. Moser & Cie., a watchmaking company with nearly 200 years of tradition and history, to develop cutting-edge movements while remaining true to the values of its mechanical fine watchmaking. This one-of-a-kind concept model, the Swiss Alp Watch Final Upgrade, pays homage to the aesthetics of connected watches, combining the sophisticated advanced material of Vantablack® with traditional, advanced watchmaking techniques.

The Swiss Alp Watch Final Upgrade is inspired by the contemporary design of connected watches, yet is a fully mechanical timepiece. It is equipped with a 100% Swiss-made in-house movement and has a power reserve of approximately 96 hours. H. Moser & Cie. believes that it is time to recharge ourselves, not download various information. A watch should express human emotions and inspire dreams, while at the same time fulfilling the important role of telling the time.

With this model, H. Moser & Cie. wanted to combine the different elements that have made the collection a success over the years. The concept model features an aesthetic inspired by connected watches, with a Vantablack(R) dial that is devoid of logo and indices. Vantablack(R), considered the blackest man-made material, is used for the dial, and the blackened hour and minute hands evoke the smartwatch's sleep state. This style is further accentuated by the small seconds at 6 o'clock, whose aperture is made up of a newly designed disc for that purpose.

"The concept came from a customer, a friend of the brand and a passionate fan of the Swiss Alp Watch collection. When he visited us with this precious design, we were immediately inspired to create a model that exudes humor and a touch of provocation," explains Edouard Meylan, CEO of H. Moser & Cie.

H. Moser & Cie. celebrates minimalism and an understated aesthetic with an ultra-modern, yet timeless approach that is pared back, creating a striking contrast between simple beauty and carefully selected complex materials. The Swiss Alp Watch Final Upgrade's case is made of stainless steel with a black DLC coating, fully exuding the power of perfect black.
