[2013-2014 AW Tokyo Collection] Jun Ashida creates a modern feminine image with gorgeous materials

Mar 15, 2013

Tokyo Fashion Week kicked off on the 14th. Jun Ashida presented its 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection show. Designer Jun Ashida, the show was held at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo in Roppongi. Among the audience were ambassadors and their spouses from various countries.

The show began with George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" playing in the background, highlighting the silhouettes of three models in the backlight. The first half of the show featured a vivid color palette of red, blue, and green, combined with neutrals and beige. A two-tone red and navy dress with a flowing shawl and a double-faced coat with adjustable hemlines was featured. The pants were slim-fitting, and the skirt was paired with knee-high boots.

As the show progressed, the colors became duller and darker, creating a tone befitting autumn and winter. Beige became burnt brown, and green and blue blended to form a peacock green. A series of graphic print shirts and dresses also appeared. The series of coats that appeared one after the other featured oversized collars. Buttons fastened near the shoulders created a draped effect. Gorgeous fur was used as collars or as scarves, adding accents to the neckline.

As the theme of Rhapsody in Blue shifted, the show moved into the second half, showcasing evening styles in velvet and shiny materials. Cocktail and evening dresses lavishly embroidered with lace and beads created slender, form-fitting silhouettes. Metallic glitter and sequins, along with oversized jewelry and long, multi-strand pearl necklaces, radiated a gorgeous sparkle. At the same time, sheer materials were used to create a feminine yet elegant look. Mixed materials were also featured, including a long dress featuring embroidered cord lace and velvet, and a delicate chiffon dress with fur wrapped around the bottom. A black velvet dress with a lavish white sequin embroidery on the top half was also playful.

The models had short or bob haircuts and wore hats with slightly droopy brims. Along with Rhapsody in Blue, composed in 1924, the collection evoked the modern women of the time, who were beginning to lose their corsets and become liberated.

The Tokyo Collection kicked off with a collection that brought classic looks into the modern era using high-quality materials.
