On Friday, January 22nd at 10:00 PM Japan time, Dior unveiled its Winter 2021-2022 Men's Collection on its official website. Men's Artistic Director Kim Jones was inspired by the luxurious masculinity of ceremonial attire, a connection to a past that remains dynamic and alive today. Like haute couture, costumes connect the present and the past, providing a window into history and heritage.

For this collection, Kim Jones and Dior have collaborated with Scottish artist Peter Doig. Just as Christian Dior transformed dreams into reality, Kim Jones follows in the footsteps of his founder by adapting Peter Doig's work into fashion.

The collection presents a masculine interpretation of couture, with embroidered and decorated uniforms, particularly those inspired by the costumes of the French Academies of Fine Arts. Embellishments and motifs are reinterpreted from Dior archives, with the covered buttons taken from the iconic Bar jacket and the gold embroidery taken from the Rosella haute couture evening gown, designed by Marc Bohan in the 1960s. Jones, Doig, and the Dior ateliers worked closely together for this collection. Doig not only conceived the motifs himself, but also hand-painted enchanting designs on wool felt hats crafted by Stephen Jones, drawing inspiration from his own work, memories, and connection to the House of Dior. As part of the dialogue between art and fashion, Doig also created two animal emblems exclusively for Dior. One evokes Christian Dior's beloved dog, Bobby, while the other, a lion, evokes both the characters in Doig's paintings and the masquerade costume designed for Monsieur Dior by Pierre Cardin, then working at the Dior ateliers, in 1949.

The collaboration between Kim Jones and Peter Doig has also been extended to the staging of the digital show. The show's setting has become an artwork, with Doig creating a blue sky installation. The stacked sound systems are borrowed from Doig's paintings, including SPEAKER/GIRL (2015).
