PPR Group, a major French retailer, will change its name from PPR to "Kering" as it shifts its business strategy to focus on luxury goods and sporting goods.
The official name change will be approved at the shareholders' meeting on June 18th of this year. Since 2005, PPR has undergone a major reorganization, and while it has previously focused its distribution business primarily in Europe, it will now operate as a more international group. Specifically, it will develop a business model centered on apparel and accessories in two rapidly growing sectors: luxury goods and sporting goods.
The English pronunciation of the new name, Kering, is similar to the word "caring," which means compassion, and reflects the company's commitment to treating its brands, employees, shareholders, and the environment with care. The "ing" in the name represents an action, representing the company's movement and international activities. Additionally, "ker" means "home" in Breton, the language spoken in Brittany, France, where the company was founded. Kering's new logo features an owl, symbolizing vision and wisdom. The PPR Group operates in over 120 countries and is listed on Euronext Paris. Its portfolio includes brands such as Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Brioni, Christopher Kane, Stella McCartney, Sergio Rossi, and Puma.
