COMME des GARÇONS presented its 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection at Paris Fashion Week on March 2nd. The designer, Rei Kawakubo, described the collection's theme as "the infinity of tailoring," exploring the limitless possibilities of tailoring. The collection primarily featured jackets and pants crafted from polyester fabrics typically used in men's suits, including houndstooth, stripes, and velvet. The same fabrics were embellished with corsages and frills made from laser-cut ribbons, as well as padded, tubular pieces. The bases of these pieces were integrated into the jacket and pants' underlying patterns, evolving the tailoring patterns. Excessive volume was presented in a new balance. The pieces themselves also sought unique forms, with designs featuring over-puffed jacket sleeves and skirts, and oversized pants forcibly tailored to the body with stitching. Additionally, the shirts are made with classic fabrics such as paisley jacquard, and feature large collars and buttoned up to the top, creating a masculine neckline.
Following a look using classic black and red lace, the final five colorful pieces were printed with the work of outsider artist Daniel Michael. Fine geometric patterns and blurred floral patterns that seem to repeat infinitely added color to the collection.
