THOM GREY., a new line from THOM BROWNE launched in the Fall/Winter 2012 season, finally launched in Japan on December 26th. This highly anticipated arrival marks the brand's long-awaited arrival in Japan, as it has previously only been available at a few stores, including Barneys in New York, Harrods in London, and I.T. in Hong Kong and Beijing. While maintaining the THOM BROWNE aesthetic, its greatest appeal lies in its reasonable prices. The full lineup includes an Oxford shirt (¥17,850) and a Yoshida & Co. tote bag (¥45,150). The iconic tricolor has been replaced with a monochrome design, and the tags are original THOM GREY designs. Limited-edition marine-print shirts and jackets will also be available at Isetan Men's. THOM GREY is also available at Hankyu Men's Tokyo and other locations. THOM BROWNE was founded by designer THOM BROWNE in 2001. He has participated in the New York Collection since 2004, and has designed the "BLACK FLEECE" collaborative line with Brooks Brothers, as well as Moncler's "MONCLER Gamme Bleu."
His modern and bold take on American preppy style has become explosively popular, and is said to have been the catalyst for the revival of the American traditional style that has been popular in recent years. Thom Browne's classic shirts are worn untucked into the trousers, exposing the tag on the left side. Another Thom Browne style is to wear the trousers short, revealing the ankles.
In 2009, Japan's Cross Company (headquarters: Okayama Prefecture) invested in the company. The company plans to open its first free-standing store in Asia, and its second worldwide, in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, in spring 2013.
