A retrospective exhibition, "Kaneko Kuniyoshi: Ends and Beginnings," commemorating the first anniversary of the artist Kaneko Kuniyoshi's death, is currently being held in the main lobby of Bunkamura Gallery in Shibuya, Tokyo. Kaneko made his debut in 1967 with "Blooming Maidens," and produced numerous works heavily influenced by literature, including "Alice in Wonderland," "Play," and "Madame Edwarda." He was a leading figure at the forefront of art alongside Tatsuhiko Shibusawa, Yukio Mishima, Rikuro Takahashi, Juro Kara, Simon Yotsuya, and Junko Koshino. Last February, Bunkamura Gallery held an exhibition, "Wings of Beauty," to commemorate the publication of his autobiography; however, Kaneko passed away approximately one month later. This exhibition, held to mark the first anniversary of Kaneko's death, features oil paintings, prints, books, and more, all on display and for sale. Kaneko's latest art book, "Illuminations," will also be released to commemorate the exhibition. The book is 208 pages in full color and traces Kaneko's life. The exhibition will run until the 23rd.
