IKASAS DESIGN Co., Ltd. invited Yoshimoto Akiko, a globally active flower arranger and contemporary artist based in Japan and China, to hold a live flower performance titled "Towards a Brilliant 2021" at the main entrance of Shanghai ISETAN, located in a prime location in Shanghai.
On December 26, 2020, IKASAS DESIGN Co., Ltd. invited Yoshimoto Akiko, a globally active flower arranger and contemporary artist based in Japan and China, to hold a live flower performance titled "Towards a Brilliant 2021" at the main entrance of Shanghai ISETAN, located in a prime location in Shanghai.
We at IKASAS DESIGN had the grand opening of our 365 square meter flagship store inside the Bairyuchin Isetan department store in October of this year. Since opening, we have continued to select and add new accessories and daily necessities to the store, and before we knew it, 2020 is almost over.
Due to the impact of the coronavirus, many people are unable to return home from China or travel to Japan this New Year's holiday. Therefore, IKASAS DESIGN is hosting a Shanghai ISETAN IKASAS hosted a pop-up event at the main entrance on the first floor, allowing visitors to experience the Japanese New Year atmosphere.
The event was titled "Towards a Brilliant 2021," and Yoko Yoshimoto, a world-renowned Japanese flower arranger and contemporary artist, was invited to the venue to create modern flower arrangements that elevated the "kadomatsu" and "welcoming spring flowers" that were introduced to Japan during the Tang Dynasty in China and have become traditional Japanese New Year decorations.
Since the Heian period, it has been said that the "Toshigami" (god of the year), who brings happiness, health, and bountiful harvests, visits each household during the New Year. Kadomatsu (traditional Japanese pine decorations) serve as a landmark for the god's visit. This project brings this traditional culture, which originated in China and has since taken root and developed in Japan, to a modern era and presents it in Shanghai.
IKASAS is a Japanese interior design brand founded by Japanese designer Akiyuki Sasaki, primarily focused on furniture. We hope to utilize the IKASAS DESIGN platform to introduce high-quality culture and ideas from Japan, China, and around the world to various countries, collaborate with artists and creators, and contribute to the daily lives of many people around the world.
Yoshimoto Akiko has received commissions for her work from major Chinese companies such as ROBAN and Han Lingqi, as well as Japanese companies such as Shiseido and JINS. She is also a prolific flower arranger and contemporary artist, creating sculptures over 20 meters tall in response to requests from commercial facilities and museums across China.
