WHAT CAFE, an art cafe operated by Warehouse TERRADA Co., Ltd., will host Soichiro Murata's solo exhibition, "A Walk through White Shadows," from January 17 to February 14, 2021. WHAT CAFE is an art and culture facility dedicated to supporting artists who represent the future of the art industry. Combining a gallery and cafe, the 800-square-meter art space allows visitors to view and purchase works by artists who represent the future of Japan's art industry while enjoying food and beverages. The artist featured in this exhibition, Soichiro Murata, has garnered attention for his talent since early on, exhibiting at Frieze London while still a student in the late 2000s. Murata's creative expression extends beyond the realm of fine art, encompassing poetry and fiction, bridging text and visual imagery to reveal his unique perspective. This exhibition will feature over 50 works, primarily two-dimensional pieces spanning Murata's early career to his most recent works. In keeping with the title, "A Walk through White Shadows," the pieces are arranged discretely to create a corridor-like exhibition space. As the world faces an unprecedented crisis, Murata's works, which embody the universal theme of "poetry," offer viewers a moment of quiet reflection, distancing them from the everyday. Our company, centered on art storage, has expanded its support services to preserve artists' passions and the value embodied in artworks for future generations, including restoration, packaging, transportation, and exhibitions. Furthermore, through the operation of art and culture facilities such as "WHAT," a contemporary art collectors' museum, "PIGMENT TOKYO," an art supplies lab, and "TERRADA ART COMPLEX," Japan's largest gallery complex, we are working to transform Tennozu into a major art hub. WHAT CAFE will continue to create a venue for exhibitions that are open to a wider range of art fans, including artists, collectors, galleries, and other major stakeholders in contemporary art, with the aim of revitalizing Japan's art market.
