On March 5th, Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood presented his 2016-17 Autumn/Winter collection at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. The collection, titled "Sexercise," marks the first season since the brand changed its name from Vivienne Westwood Gold Label to one named after Kronthaler's former student and Austrian husband, Andreas Kronthaler. It was inspired by personal events that occurred over the past few months. The collection directly reflected the vibrant colors of the clothes made by a friend of Kronthaler's who was an assistant to Vivienne Westwood and had become a Buddhist, memories of sorting through the clothes and accessories left behind by Kronthaler's mother when his father moved, and the use of color in Pieter Bruegel's masterpiece, "The Peasant Wedding." A men's collection was also presented at the same time, but all designs were generally unisex. Red and mustard-colored coats reminiscent of Buddhist monk's robes and monk-like head dresses were featured, but Vivienne Westwood's signature style remained, with velvet bustiers and taffeta jackets. Oversized suits featured distinctive '80s-style shoulders. Overall, there were few asymmetrical pieces, and the simple silhouettes, which looked easy to wear, were interesting.
The final look featured a male model wearing a gold dress and holding a bouquet of orange renanculas, strongly emphasizing the unisex nature of the collection.
