YUMI KATSURA, which welcomed Toshikazu Iwatani of DRESSCAMP as creative team director, held the "YUMI KATSURA 2013 Grand Collection in Tokyo" event at the Ryogoku Kokugikan on February 20th. Under the theme of "Beautiful Changes," the event featured models from Korean idol group KARA and Korean actor Lee Seo-jin, as well as Yokozuna Hakuho and children from Fukushima evacuated to Tokyo. The brand unveiled 100 new pieces for 13 occasions, ranging from haute couture to men's and rental designs. The new YUMI KATSURA brand was promoted with new designs and vibrant colors, including dresses that instantly transform an image and bold print dresses using yuzen dyeing. KARA, who performed three songs at the concert, including "Mister," also appeared in a wedding dress that transformed into a miniskirt by removing the long skirt, expressing the duality of elegance, glamour, and youth. Sojin, who made a guest appearance, presented chocolates to Yokozuna Hakuho and children in Fukushima, and also appeared as a model. "This time, I asked them to design four transforming dresses and a Yuzen dress. After nearly half a century of running the brand, I wanted to breathe new life into the team, and I thought the combination of the white Katsura and the colorful Iwatani would be perfect," said Yumi Katsura. Meanwhile, Iwatani said, "For the Yuzen dress, I aimed for a design that was easy to wear, not something that had a strong showy element like in the past, but something that could actually be worn to parties or out and about. I originally ran a bridal line, and we met through the fact that we were made and sold by the same company. I wanted to understand my role within the Yumi Katsura brand and create a design that was unique to me." At the beginning of the event, designers Yumi Katsura, Seojin Lee, and Seki Hakuho handed a portion of the sales from the show to Vice Governor Masao Uchibori of Fukushima Prefecture, and donated it to the "Great East Japan Earthquake Fukushima Children's Donation Fund."
