Katsusuke Maeda, an antique Louis Vuitton collector, will hold his first solo exhibition, "Little L.Vuitton," from December 11th to 23rd.
From an industrial designer's perspective, Maeda has amassed a collection of approximately 100 Louis Vuitton trunks. Most of these are antique pieces made to order between 1880 and the 1940s, making it one of the largest private collections in the world. He has also established a private museum and has held exhibitions and other events. Maeda also uses his trunk collection as a source material for creating paper crafts, which have attracted attention from collectors around the world, particularly in Europe.
In addition to the antique trunks from his collection, this solo exhibition will also feature approximately 40 of Maeda's works, titled "3D Historical Kamishibai." Based on the theme of historical events from 100 years ago, such as the legend of Louis Vuitton surrounding the Titanic in 1912, the exhibition depicts mini trunks traveling, faithfully recreating every last detail and blemish.
