To celebrate its 85th anniversary, the American cake decoration brand Wilton held a cake decorating contest. An exhibition of winning works from the Japanese preliminary contest will be held at the Anniversaire Omotesando store in Tokyo's Omotesando district from November 18th to 20th.
The contest selects the best original decorated cakes from America, Europe, and Asia. This first contest invited submissions based on the theme of "anniversaries."
Approximately 30 works from the national preliminary contest, which will be held in Hong Kong as the Asian finals, will be exhibited at Anniversaire. Fashion designer Han Ahn Soon also participated as a judge in the judging session on the 17th.
The venue also features a corner introducing the history of Wilton, with some of their signature works on display. A workshop is also planned for visitors, allowing them to try their hand at icing.
Wilton's 85-year history began in 1929 when Dewey McKinley Wilton opened the Wilton School, which taught sugar decorating techniques for Western confectionery. The Wilton School popularized the "Wilton Method," a cake decorating technique that combined traditional European buttercream icing (a technique for covering baked goods with a creamy sugar paste) with simple American baked cakes. Today, the company is known as the top-selling cake decorating tool brand in the United States. Entrex is the exclusive distributor in Japan.
