Music streaming service Spotify held the online live event "Spotify presents Tokyo Super Hits Live 2020" on November 26th. The opening act will be the notable rock band Macaroni Enpitsu, who made their major debut in November this year.

The lineup will include top artists supported by many listeners on Spotify both in Japan and overseas, such as Arashi, Perfume, End of the World (a global project by SEKAI NO OWARI), and Alexandros, as well as artists Spotify has identified as "Early Noise" artists, such as Vickeblanka, Vaundy, and Macaroni Enpitsu. The online live performance featured a total of seven acts, including notable next-generation artists that the band supports through artists such as "Spring Noise."

©️ THINGS.Opening the concert was Macaroni Enpitsu, who made their major debut last month on November 4th and have further refined their expression and popularity! "Blueberry Nights" marked the start of a dramatic night. Vocalist/guitarist Hattori's mellow vocals are soothing. What's great about his singing is that his voice is simply mellow, and in a word, super emotional. Following the first song, "Koibito Gokko," which soaks into the body and mind of those who have just finished work, it was impressive to see him smiling as he sang. During the MC, vocalist/guitarist Hattori commented, "It's not something we take for granted when we get to perform at an event like this, so we were grateful to be able to perform today!" The final song, "Young Adult," is one of those classic Macaroni rock songs that you'll want to listen to over and over again. It's also a must-listen for anyone listening to their music for the first time.

I Want to Hear More! Bikkeblankka Captivated First-Time Listeners

©️ THINGS. The second live act was Vickeblanka, who made waves after being selected for Spotify's "Early Noise 2017." He kicked off with "Black Rover," a hard-hitting band track. From the get-go, he delivered his songs and performances to a global audience, his stage shone with rainbow colors. His resonant falsetto and cool demeanor as he sang and played the guitar were truly cool. His second song was the funky "Shekebon!", and his third, the infectious "Ca Va?", delivered a spectacular performance until the very end. It was also impressive that Vickeblanka spoke in English during his MC performance. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who thought, "Please provide subtitles!" Apparently, the all-English MC was written by MC Harry Sugiyama, who had written the content he wanted to share with us just before the performance. I'm amazed at his potential, being able to memorize so much in such a short time and speak so fluently. I look forward to seeing what he does next.

Bringing with tension. Vaundy, familiar from Spotify commercials, makes an appearance.

©️ THINGS. The third performer is Vaundy, who became a hot topic with the Spotify commercial song "Fukōryoku." During the talk time with the MC before his stage appearance, he was genuinely happy to receive the kind messages from fans, but also showed some nervousness about being on stage. It was a precious moment where we got a glimpse of his humble, kind, and honest personality, something that is not apparent from his work or singing. However, once he was on stage, the aura that Boundy exuded changed completely. There he was, a rising artist. The concert opened with "Fukōryoku." The song's urban development and captivating message captivated even first-time listeners, and he sang the next three songs, "Tokyo Flash" and "Kaiju no Hanauta," with his whole body.

©️ THINGS.Alexandros kicked off their set with the familiar "opener" (Burger Queen) that is synonymous with their live shows! Fans were thrilled to hear them start their Spotify online live show with this opening number. As they launched into "Kick & Spin," a staple of their live shows, Yohei Kawakami (vocals/guitar) and the other band members' excitement rose even further. The next two songs were new: "Beast," the theme song for the currently-showing film "Doctor Death's Legacy," starring Go Ayano and Keiko Kitagawa, and "Become the Wind," the theme song for the SUBARU XV TV commercial. Incidentally, "Become the Wind" had not yet been released at the time of the live performance. This was the essence of a rock band's live stage! Alexandros' powerful and energetic performance delivered a lingering excitement both in the venue and for those watching online.

Enchanted by the New Fantasy of End of the World
 ©️ THINGS.
©️ THINGS. ©️ THINGS.
©️ THINGS. End of the World is a global project by SEKAI NO OWARI. Their performance came at a rare opportunity, as their first album, "Chameleon," was released digitally the following morning at midnight. The band performed four songs from the album, which they had been working on for over seven years. According to member Nakajin, "End of the World is a project that feels like a separate entity from SEKAI NO OWARI," so I honestly had no idea what to expect before seeing the show. However, as soon as the intro to the first song began, I was engrossed in the worldview. It's different from what most people might imagine "SEKAI NO OWARI" to be. It's a delicate, refined, pure fantasy and darkness. If you're a fan of dream pop and organic music, you should definitely give this a listen. Personally, this is my top pick for an artist to listen to this holiday season.

The ever-evolving culture of Perfume captivates the world

©️ THINGS.At the end of the "Spotify presents Tokyo Super Hits Live 2020," many in the audience were beginning to lose consciousness of the "online live performance." Then, like angels, Perfume appeared. It's no exaggeration to say that these girls have established a culture of their own: "Perfume." The concert kicked off with "FLASH," a track from their sixth album, "COSMIC EXPLORER," which ranked 16th in Rolling Stone's "20 Best Pop Albums of 2016." The performance and dance moves were undeniable, but what was even more impressive was the way they engaged with the audience, using gestures and other fan service, as if we were actually there, right in front of them. To close the show, they performed their signature song "Chocolate Disco," saying in the MC, "I can't imagine ending the show without singing this song!", bringing the show to a spectacular close.

Arashi's first live online concert was a solid success, delivering a solid groove!
 ©️ THINGS.
©️ THINGS. The fun concert finally came to an end. The long-awaited Arashi finally appeared! Although they will be suspending their activities at the end of this month, they are still trying new things. This Spotify online concert was actually their first ever "live online live broadcast." This was their first attempt prior to their own solo concert. It was a night that reaffirmed that no matter what stage they perform on or what style they perform in, they are truly themselves. The first song, "Turning Up," was Arashi's first digital single. It's safe to say it's a masterpiece that truly launched their presence on Spotify. The second song was "Whenever You Call," which gained attention for being written and produced by world-famous artist Bruno Mars. While the song is captivating, the group is also renowned for its dance moves, captivating audiences with their sharp, chic moves. The final song of the concert was "Party Starters," a happy and playful new song that thrilled the audience and brought the excitement to a climax before they left the stage. Arashi's singing, dancing, and talk all perfectly synchronized to create the unique groove. I want to continue watching Arashi as they walk the straight path they always have.
