
Audio streaming service Spotify has released a ranking of Japanese music listened to overseas in 2020. The calculation period was from January 1 to November 27, 2020. The rankings of those intrigued are as follows.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and the theme song sung by LiSA are both hugely popular worldwide, taking the top spot!
In the "Most Streamed Artists Overseas" category, LiSA (Lisa), who ranked fourth last year, rose to the top spot. The top spot for "Most Streamed Songs by Japanese Artists Overseas" was also taken by Lisa's "Gurenge," highlighting the global popularity of the anime "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba."

Soundtracks for Studio Ghibli films, My Hero Academia, and Haikyu!! are also popular and listened to worldwide.
In addition to anime theme songs, soundtrack tracks are also widely listened to around the world through Spotify playlists. Joe Hisaishi, who has worked on many songs related to Studio Ghibli films released this year, ranked fifth, while Yuki Hayashi, known for his work on various anime such as "My Hero Academia" and "Haikyu!!," ranked sixth. Incidentally, Yuki Hayashi's songs are the most streamed in the United States, with a surprising number of plays there—about five times more than in Japan.

Ranked seventh among the most-played songs is "summertime," a song that became a hot topic on TikTok, a social networking app that is now considered one of the leading sources of trends. It gained traction on TikTok and rose to prominence by ranking on Spotify's viral charts in Southeast Asia. The most-played country is the United States, followed by Indonesia and the Philippines. This ranking may have resonated with you, or it may have revealed something new. Additionally, starting December 2nd, Spotify is offering "Your 2020 Summary," which allows users to look back on 2020 using their own music listening history!
With "Your 2020 Summary," users can check the songs and artists they listened to the most this year on the Spotify app and on a special website (http://www.spotify.com/wrapped/). The app also features a playlist called "My Top Song 2020," which brings together the songs you listened to most this year, so be sure to check it out.
