The fragrance festival "ISETAN Salon de Parfum" will be held from November 26th to December 1st at the event hall on the 7th floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building. We spoke to the buyers in charge of this event, which brings together approximately 50 brands from around the world, about their recommendations for different types of fragrances and basic knowledge. Let's start with the introductory part.
For fragrance beginners, we recommend choosing based on your first impression, such as the packaging, brand logo, or bottle design. Since these designs reflect the image the scent conveys, choosing a fragrance with a design you intuitively like often perfectly matches your current mood.
Not knowing what fragrance suits you is a common concern for beginners. In times like these, one solution is to expand on the image you want to project, based on your fashion, makeup, and mood.
■Flowers and Fruits for Girls Who Love Cute Things
For cute girls who choose soft materials for their fashion and want to create a fresh impression, we recommend fresh floral scents or light, fruity scents.
Annick Goutal's Quei L'Amour Eau de Parfum (50ml/18,600 yen) has a scent of wild rose and geranium with pomegranate, blueberry, and morello cherry, while L'ARTISAN PARFUMEUR's Jour de Fête Eau de Toilette (100ml/18,000 yen) evokes the scent of fruits and sweets, a food that women love. The scents are familiar to those who consume them on a daily basis, making them easy for beginners to adopt.
■ Fresh for the Pure Maiden
For the pure girl who likes natural materials, we recommend a fresh scent that exudes an elegant cleanliness. We chose soapy and citrus scents, such as Carthusia's Mediterraneo Eau de Toilette (50ml/¥12,000), which has a green tea scent with notes of lemon leaf and jasmine, and CLEAN's Ultimate Eau de Parfum (60ml/¥9,500), which has notes of lemon, Italian bergamot, and musk. A useful fragrance tidbit: even the same scent can emanate differently depending on your body temperature and the season. There are four main types of fragrances, ranked by duration and intensity: parfum, eau de parfum, eau de toilette, and eau de cologne. Most fragrances have a top note, middle note, and base note that change over time, and their distinct scents begin to emerge after about 20 minutes of wearing them. It's a good idea to let it soak into your skin 30 minutes before going out. You can also adjust the amount according to the season and your physical condition.
