The 2014 Best Dresser Awards (sponsored by the Japan Men's Fashion Association) ceremony was held in Tokyo on the 27th, with seven recipients, including Rie Miyazawa and Ainosuke Kataoka.
The awards select and honor prominent figures from various fields as the year's best dressers. This year, the 43rd annual awards ceremony, recognized Toyota Motor Corporation President Akio Toyoda (Politics/Economy category), kabuki actor Ainosuke Kataoka (Academic/Culture category), broadcast writer Kundo Koyama (Academic/Culture category), actress Rie Miyazawa (Entertainment category), actor Ryohei Suzuki (Academic/Culture category), professional table tennis player Ai Fukuhara (Sports category), and photojournalist Tsuneko Sasamoto (Special Award). Additionally, Ryohei Suzuki was selected as the recipient of the Cool Wool Award, which recognizes the person who looks cool in wool among the Best Dresser Award winners.
Miyazawa smiled and said, "I'm particular about quality materials and things that make me happy when I wear them." President Toyoda said, "Since I started paying attention to fashion, my perspective on the world and car design has changed. I insist on wearing clothes made in Japan." Kataoka said, "I prefer suits from Go-Toniku, not mine." Koyama greeted the audience by saying, "It's embarrassing, to say the least. My friend Charlie Weis arranged my outfit for me today. I think he's somewhere in the venue today." Suzuki also commented, "Costumes are like a trigger for getting into character. I have a new image of wool in my mind. Next year, I'd like to play a role that requires me to wear a suit, like Ainosuke."
