On March 6th, Alexander McQueen, designed by Sarah Burton, held its Fall/Winter 2017-18 women's collection show at the Orangerie in the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris. This season, the collection drew inspiration from Cornwall, drawing on the region's wilderness rocks, Victorian-era paintings of Princess Charlotte by Edward Burne-Jones, and the photographs of Julia Margaret Cameron, a photographer who was also a friend of Burne-Jones. The collection kicked off with a series of hand-knitted lace-up dresses, exuding a hard-edged yet delicate craftsmanship. Oversized jackets in vibrant tweed and lace dresses paired with wide-leg trousers and sneakers offered modern touches. Dresses with half-stitch embroidery and dresses with studs were featured, each paired with half-stitch embroidery and studded shoes.
Another characteristic of this season was the fringe elements seen hanging from threads that appeared on many of the items. The show ended with a lacy black witch dress embroidered with motifs such as hands, scissors, and keys, and a white witch dress adorned with feathers and feather motif embroidery.
