Stella McCartney presented her Fall/Winter 2017-18 women's collection in Paris on March 6th. This season, Stella McCartney embarked on a journey exploring her signature "Stella Classic." In a more clear and effortless way, she evoked the femininity hidden within masculine attire. The collection was filled with elements of Stella's love of equestrianism and traditional details evoking British history. The equestrian-inspired style is evident in the accentuated shoulders, puffed sleeves that stretch long enough to cover the hands, and slim-fitting torsos. Formal houndstooth double-breasted jackets, trench coats, and chester coats, iconic British gentlemen's signature pieces, are reimagined in modern silhouettes with accentuated curves, embodying the handsome modern woman with a classic aura. Among the soft color palette of honey, sand, Havana, biscuit, and gray, silk dresses and sets featuring an all-over print of 18th-century British painter George Stubbs' famous painting, "Horse Frightened by a Lion," stood out. The vibrant colors evoked a strong British tradition and beauty. Within the consistently British tailoring, playful elements like print collage, such as unique second lapels and conical, three-dimensional bra cups, were incorporated. Sensual looks included organza with thick pleats and sheer tulle dresses with floral embroidery, as well as practical, organic raw denim, jumpsuits, and quilted nylon coats. At first glance, the seemingly scattered individual elements were combined with minimalist, strict pieces like metal toe caps, pump-up sneakers, and nappa-like glove bags, creating a relaxed, signature Stella style. It was a strange feeling, then, to see how these individual pieces transformed into a relaxed, signature Stella style.
