The first Japanese location of Los Angeles-based hamburger restaurant Umami Burger® will open on March 24th in Aoyama, Tokyo (located inside Portofino, 3-15-5 Kita-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo). This long-awaited Japanese location, a hamburger restaurant that has received numerous honors in the US, including "Best Burger of the Year 2010" and "One of the 17 Most Influential Burgers of All Time," is generating growing anticipation and attention. Here's a report on the preview held prior to the opening.
Umami Burger is a hamburger restaurant that focuses on umami, the fifth taste, and serves hamburgers cooked using techniques that maximize the umami flavor of each ingredient. For its Japanese launch, the restaurant carefully selected items from its US menu to suit Japanese palates and even developed a Japan-exclusive menu.
The three burgers available on this day were the restaurant's signature "Umami Burger" (1,380 yen), the Japan-exclusive "U-nami Burger" (1,280 yen), and the "Samurai Burger" (1,380 yen). The "UMAMI BURGER" is a hamburger with a thick shiitake mushroom, roasted tomato, crispy Parmesan cheese, caramelized onion, and patty sandwiched between two buns. It's a dish that combines the perfect trinity of a juicy patty, umami-packed tomatoes, and crunchy shiitake mushrooms. With beef patties coarsely ground in-house every morning and original buns made with milk inspired by Portuguese bread, this burger allows you to fully experience the attention to detail that supports the "umami" of the Umami Burger.
The "U-nami BURGER," made with fresh fried white fish topped with homemade tartar sauce made with herbs and curry flavor, is a dish we recommend to women. The moment you bite into the crispy fries, the delicious flavor of curry spreads throughout your mouth, making it an addictive taste that will have you coming back for more and more. The "SAMURAI BURGER" is a hamburger made with a patty coated in sweet teriyaki sauce, sandwiched between soft and chewy lotus root, nameko mushrooms, and cherry radish. The secret ingredient of wasabi accents the sweet teriyaki sauce, allowing you to enjoy a sweet and spicy mix. In addition, there are more than 15 types of hamburgers available at all times, including the popular American "TRuffle burger" and the vegetarian "FALAFEL BURGER." The side menu also has a rich lineup, including "Truffle Fries" (800 yen) topped with melted truffle cheese, the "Housemade Pickle Plate" (900 yen) with an assortment of homemade pickles, and desserts such as salad and ice cream sandwiched between buns.
In addition, for the three days from the opening on March 24th to 26th, the first 100 customers each day will receive a free original drink jar as a novelty. Why not try out the true power of Umami Burger, the king of gourmet burgers, for yourself?
