Margiela x Globe-Trotter travel cases go on sale at Shinjuku Isetan

Nov 1, 2013

Maison Martin Margiela has collaborated with Globe-Trotter, a long-established British travel case brand, to release a specially designed travel case.

The design features Globe-Trotter's archive trunk designs from the 1920s to the 1950s, as well as peeling stickers, dirt, and scratches, all of which give the trunks a sense of the texture they have experienced over the years through a long journey, all expressed through a trompe l'oeil print. It also ties into the theme of the 14SS collection, "the passage of time." While Globe-Trotter has released numerous collaborations on travel cases, this is the first time that the exterior design has also been original.

The body is made of vulcanized fiber, the strap is made of tanned leather, and the handle is made of wood. Each case is handmade by an artisan. There are two types: a 21-inch (54 x 39 x 18 cm) trolley case (304,500 yen) and a 30-inch (75 x 44 x 24 cm) extra-deep suitcase (378,000 yen), each available in two colors: sepia and monotone.

Pre-sales will begin at L'ESPACE Maison Martin Margiela on the 3rd floor of Isetan Shinjuku from December 11th, and will then be available at Maison Martin Margiela directly managed stores nationwide from March next year.
