To celebrate the opening of its Shanghai store on November 14th, Valentino held a special collection show at the Shanghai International Cruise Terminal.
Creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli created a special, seasonless collection consisting of ready-to-wear, haute couture, and accessories. The collection was presented with a focus on red, the brand's iconic color and auspicious in China.
The show showcased various shades of red. The collection featured coats and dresses with graphic contrasts between light and dark tones, lustrous patent leather coats and skirts, and a sensual series of lace and sheer fabrics. The skirts and coats, with multiple vertical panels, had hems sewn together midway, creating fringe-like swaying patterns with each step. A variety of patterns were also featured. The floral motif series included sheer rose-print pieces, tops embroidered with petals, and lace pieces with dancing large flowers. Camouflage, one of the key themes for Spring 2014, was also showcased. Accessories included Rockstuds from the iconic series. A large, Chinese-inspired clutch bag featuring a tiger's face was also featured. The items will be available in Valentino shops worldwide, including flagship stores in New York, Milan, Paris, and Rome, from April 2014. Celebrities who attended the event included Jun Hasegawa, Zhang Ziyi, Lin Chi-ling, and Carina Lau. A cocktail party followed the show.
