A talk event featuring award-winning art director Yoshie Watanabe and commercial planner Takuma Takasaki, known for his work on numerous popular corporate advertisements, will be held at Marunouchi Reading Style Cafe on November 25th.
The event commemorates the release of D-BROS's 2014 picture book calendar, "DEAR BEAR," which the two artists created. The talk will explore the production process of the calendar, which combines Watanabe's soft illustrations with Takasaki's sensitive words to create a complete story. The two leading figures in the advertising industry will also discuss "what they think and what they are trying to convey through products and advertisements."
In addition, a reading of the picture book calendar by Emma Maeda, an art student who primarily reads for shows and movies, will be held, as well as a signing session for calendar purchasers. Limited-edition new cups and saucers (four designs) featuring the girl featured in the calendar will also be available at the venue. The illustration is completed by combining the cups and saucers, and when you lift the cup, a different expression of the girl appears.
To participate in the event, purchase a ticket in advance at the store or register by sending an email to info.d-bros@draft.jp with your name, phone number, and the number of tickets you would like.
D-BROS was launched in 1995 as a product brand of Draft Co., Ltd., a company specializing in advertising production and graphic design. It has released a variety of products, including stationery, interior tools, and tableware, both domestically and internationally.
Watanabe founded KIGI with Ryosuke Uehara in 2012. He designs apparel, picture books, and D-BROS products, focusing on art direction and graphics. He has received high praise both domestically and internationally, winning the ADC Member's Award, the NY ADC Gold Award, and the D&AD Gold Award. His publications include the long-selling picture book "BROOCH" (Little More).
Meanwhile, Takasaki is affiliated with the Dentsu Communication Design Center. He has worked on many popular corporate advertisements and was in charge of the scriptwriting and producing of the film "Honokaa Boy." In 2012, he published "The Art of Expression" (Asahi Shimbun Publications) and the novel "Haruka Kakera" (Chuokoron-Shinsha). He has also worked with Watanabe and Uehara of GIGI on Sanyo Shokai's coat campaign and the Kesennuma sake renewal project "NAMI and UMI."
