An exhibition exploring the history of Dior through its artistic directors is being held at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.

Jun 6, 2017

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dior, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris will host the exhibition "CHRISTIAN DIOR, DESIGNER OF DREAMS" from July 5th to January 7th.

The exhibition explores how the house's founder, Christian Dior, and his six successors - Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons, and Maria Grazia Chiuri - shaped the brand and established its illustrious reputation as one of the world's leading haute couture designers.

The exhibition explores the history, inspiration, creativity, and heritage of the house through over 300 carefully selected haute couture dresses from designs dating from 1947 to the present. In addition, the exhibition will feature rare materials such as fabrics used in the atelier, fashion photographs, drawings, and documents, as well as hats, jewelry, bags, shoes, and perfume bottles, making for an unprecedentedly grandiose exhibition. The collection of paintings, furnishings, and fine art that influenced design for over 70 years sheds light on Christian Dior, who was also a frequent visitor to museums. It also highlights the connection between haute couture and art. From these various perspectives, the exhibition will explore the house's energetic and esprit-filled legacy and highlight its enduring influence. In a first for the museum, the exhibition will combine the fashion section and hall into one space, spanning approximately 3,000 square meters, showcasing works by theme and chronologically, beginning with Christian Dior's childhood. Special exhibits from collections around the world, including the Costume Department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the de Young Museum in San Francisco, and the Museum of London, will also be on display, including works making their Paris debut.
