Hanae Mori manuscrit presented their 17SS collection at the Toranomon Hills Mori Tower Atrium on October 18th during Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO 2017 S/S. The theme for this wedding collection was "A Dainty Sheer Layer—Elegant Unexpectedness." Models in pure white dresses danced through a space bathed in dazzling natural light. The show was filled with a comfortable atmosphere.
Lightly swaying silk, lace, tulle, ribbons, and butterflies perched in hair. The head dress, shaped like Hanae Mori's signature butterfly, was made from original lace fabric using a 3D printer to print a paper-cutting-style pattern onto resin. This item is perhaps the perfect example of designer Yu Amano's goal of "integrating with digital technology." The design, which pursues the classic principles of wedding dresses, features cutting that accentuates the beauty of the décolleté and back, a corset that elegantly accentuates the body line, and a mermaid-line skirt, while undoubtedly incorporating technological advances. Amatsu commented on the details of this new endeavor, saying, "The head dress was made using molded tech material that shines blue and partially silver. I analyzed the pattern of a swallowtail butterfly and incorporated it into the design." When asked about the female image he envisioned when thinking about this wedding line, he replied, "As is also the case with Manuscri designs, I am conscious of creating a 'strong woman,' and clothes that will motivate the wearer. I want to express the strong will to 'take one step forward' through my designs." A large digital sign at the entrance recognized the faces of men and women and displayed an appropriate image for each individual, attracting the attention of guests. "It would be interesting if we could eventually develop an AI that could suggest a dress that would suit each customer from a designer's perspective. Wedding dresses are purchased after a thorough consultation between the customer and the salesperson, so I think it would be good to add a designer's perspective to that," he said, expressing his enthusiasm for continuing to expand into the digital field.
