A Must-See for Vintage Fashion Lovers! 3 Vintage Shops Recommended by a Parisian Shop Owner

Nov 7, 2016
Visiting Paris and not stopping by a vintage shop is like going to Tsukiji Market and not eating fish! The country that built the foundations of fashion culture still holds many wonderful treasures, so you definitely shouldn't miss out.

Among them, the one that is highly regarded as the best vintage store in Paris is "THANX GOD I'M A V.I.P." It all began in 1994 when owner Sylvie, a DJ and fashion enthusiast, opened the shop of the same name for Etienne Marcel.

With its good taste and musicality, it became a popular spot loved by leading creators in the fashion, media, and music industries. However, Sylvie grew tired of the situation where music was taking over too much, so she moved the store to its current location near Saint-Martin in order to restore it to its original form as a vintage store. She welcomed Amnaye (her husband), an event organizer and fashion lover, as owner, and it has continued to this day.

The store is filled with items that will inspire you

Vintage items collected from all over the world are beautifully displayed by color. "Items from before the 1970s, when ready-to-wear clothing first appeared, are handmade haute couture pieces that are one-of-a-kind. Just look at the seams and the tailoring and you'll see that." This is indicative of their commitment to emphasizing the essence of "good clothing," whether branded or unbranded. The store offers a wide range of items, from casual pieces that can be worn everyday to special pieces with quirky designs. The fateful item that you have come across in Paris at this very moment, transcending many eras and borders, can sometimes immerse you in a feeling of luxury more than even the most expensive Chanel bag.

When the store first opened, it was approximately 200 square meters in size, but now it is a spacious store of approximately 400 square meters. A new cafe space has been added to the back of the store, and they have also started selling antique tableware. They will soon be selling items from their own brand, and they are constantly moving forward, as if to say, "maintaining the status quo is decline." Utilizing their multifaceted talents, the two continue to provide creativity and inspiration to many creators.

The store also sells antique tableware.

However, it's not always possible to travel to Paris from Japan, so it may be a while before we can share their space. Fortunately, for those of you in that situation, you can still listen to the music they create with the free iPhone and Android app "THANX GOD RADIO"! We hope you will experience their worldview through their music. What a convenient age we live in, where we can share good things with just the internet, no matter where we are in the world. Thank you, God!

Here are three vintage stores that Sylvie and Amnae recommended.
