Photographer Daido Moriyama and book designer Hitoshi Suzuki hold talk event to celebrate the release of their co-authored book

Nov 22, 2016

To celebrate the publication of "Absolute Flat City," a book co-authored by photographer Daido Moriyama and book designer Hitoshi Suzuki, as well as Moriyama's latest photo book, "Osaka," an event titled "Photographer Daido Moriyama 1996: What Did the Dog on the Street See?" will be held at NADiff a/p/a/r/t in Ebisu, Tokyo, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on November 25th.

Daido Moriyama is a photographer whose published works include "NORTHERN" and "Dogs and Fishnet Stockings." Hitoshi Suzuki, on the other hand, is a book designer who became independent in 1985 after working as an assistant to Kohei Sugiura for 12 years. He also writes film and photography criticism, and his published works include "The Birth of the Screen," "Page and Power," "The Design of Gravity," and "Watching 'Summer at Sanrizuka.'" This event will be divided into two parts: a talk and a screening. The first half will feature a screening of "Photographer Daido Moriyama 1996: What Did the Dog on the Street See?", a documentary that aired in 1996 and followed Daido Moriyama's photography in Osaka. It will be a rare opportunity to see the 58-year-old Moriyama, just before his big break, hard at work on his photography and darkroom work. The second half will feature a talk show featuring Moriyama and Suzuki, along with Iwama Gen, producer of the documentary and producer of art-related programs such as the "Into the Labyrinth of the Louvre" series on Nippon Television. The talk will discuss Moriyama's origins as a photographer and his journey toward transforming Osaka into an "absolutely flat city." A signing session will also be held after the talk.
