Nike Japan held a media preview of "NIKELAB MA5" on November 28th, unveiling the store ahead of its December 1st grand opening. The store, which occupies only one floor and covers approximately 164 square meters, will carry most of the NikeLab product lineup, including apparel, shoes, and accessories from the NikeLab ACG collection, as well as NikeLab Gyakusou. NikeLab was announced in June 2014 as a space for people to experience Nike's latest innovations and collaborate with creators on collections. Until now, NikeLab's latest collections have only been available in Japan through the NikeLab website online shop and at Dover Street Market Ginza. This will be NikeLab's seventh store, following locations in New York, London, Paris, Milan, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. "NIKELAB MA5" is named after the word MA5, which stands for Minami-Aoyama 5-chome (1F Chateau Toyo Minami-Aoyama, 5-12-24 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo). The store sells the latest apparel, shoes, and accessories, including NIKELAB ACG alpine jackets, cargo pants, and system blazers. A video will play in the center of the store every 15 minutes, highlighting the clothing and shoes (ACG = All Condition Gear) that are suitable for all conditions, including rain and snow, on December 1st, the opening day. The store's design also embodies NikeLab's three core principles: functionality, lightness, and modularity. The store is characterized by its environmentally friendly approach, drawing inspiration from product design with the use of plastic and recycled materials, fixtures shaped like shoe soles, and a black floor incorporating the shape of a track. Another key feature is the incorporation of unique Japanese culture and traditional techniques, such as the sliding entrance door, fixtures made from cypress and inspired by Nanbu ironware, and fitting rooms with tatami floors.
