For its Fall/Winter 2026 collection, Reflection, Mame Kurogouchi has unveiled its first leather collection, Mame Kurogouchi with TSUCHIYA KABAN, created in collaboration with Japanese leather brand TSUCHIYA KABAN.

Comprising three bags, five small leather goods, and one leather vest, the collection translates the organic curves Mame Kurogouchi has long expressed through fabric into three-dimensional forms shaped by TSUCHIYA KABAN’s exceptional leather craftsmanship.

Drawing in Leather the Curves Once Shaped in Fabric

Mame Kurogouchi is known for organic forms that evoke cocoons and plants. Until now, those curves have largely been articulated through the softness and movement of fabric.

For this collection, those sculptural ideas are realized through the expertise of TSUCHIYA KABAN, which has refined its three-dimensional leather-forming techniques through the production of randoseru, traditional Japanese school backpacks, since its founding in 1965.

The collection’s signature Mayu Bucket Bag renders a cocoon-like silhouette in leather. Its form possesses both a weightless lightness, as though released from gravity, and the solemn stillness of carved stone. A slender handle with woven detailing reminiscent of Japanese bamboo craft introduces an organic rhythm to the restrained form.

A Leather Vest Born from Randoseru Craftsmanship

Another defining piece is the Yama Leather Vest.

While inspired by trail vests, its construction also draws upon the structural beauty of TSUCHIYA KABAN’s randoseru. Precise pattern-making and a belt system derived from traditional school backpacks allow the vest to follow the body in a smooth, sculptural line.

The Debut of a New Brand Symbol

The collection marks another new chapter for Mame Kurogouchi beyond its exploration of leather.

As part of a new visual language connecting the brand with its audience, Mame Kurogouchi has developed a new brand symbol, introduced for the first time on the collection’s metal hardware.

The minimal design features intersecting straight lines within an organic oval reminiscent of a cocoon. Inspired by Japanese marquetry and traditional geometric patterns, it extracts, deconstructs, and reassembles the line as a fundamental visual unit, while subtly incorporating elements of the letters in “MAME.”

Transforming respect for craft and culture into a contemporary form, the symbol becomes an apt emblem for the debut of the brand’s first leather collection.

A New Brand Language Born from the Meeting of Craft Traditions

Alongside the Mayu bags, the collection includes small leather goods such as a card sleeve, wallet, pouch, keyring, and leather strap.

Each piece is shaped by gentle curves recalling cocoons and beans. Original carabiners and straps allow the items to be connected to bags, accessories, and the Yama vest, creating adaptable styling possibilities according to the wearer’s needs.

What Mame Kurogouchi has gained through its first leather collection is not simply a new material.
