Passing traditional Japanese techniques on to the future. LASTFRAME weaves new expressions of Made in Japan

Aug 19, 2025
LASTFRAME, a brand created by globally active designer Takanohiro Okuide, is committed to Made in Japan and elevates traditional Japanese techniques into contemporary designs. It is a rare brand whose mission is to capture disappearing craftsmanship in "frames" and pass it on to future generations as unique products.

Combining Japanese Craftsmanship with Contemporary Design
This season, a new addition has been made to the "CRAFTMADE" series, which combines the hand-knitting techniques of Japanese artisans with LASTFRAME's signature designs. "BUBBLE," which uses transparent thread to create a "bubble" effect, and designs with eco-leather straps made from recycled genuine leather scraps are attracting attention as products that combine environmental consciousness with a playful spirit. The "KNIT BAG" series also introduces new shapes, such as the "WRAP BAG," an evolution of the brand's signature market bag, and the "ARC TOTE," inspired by the curves of a bow. Each bag combines practicality with beauty.

Colors and Textures Embrace Japanese Aesthetics
LASTFRAME also demonstrates a unique approach to color expression. "KYOTO METALLIC" reinterprets Kyoto's gold and silver thread culture with cutting-edge technology, while "KASANE" is inspired by the Heian period's "Kasane no Irome" color scheme. These series bridge the gap between tradition and modern fashion. Ancient aesthetics and modern fashion resonate with each other, achieving a unique beauty of color.

Brand Philosophy and History
LASTFRAME was founded in 2018 and has been presenting its collections in Paris since 2019, expanding into major cities around the world with brands such as Selfridges and BROWNS. In 2024, the brand will open a directly managed store at the Hankyu Umeda Main Store, steadily expanding its support both in Japan and overseas.

The word "LAST" carries the contradictory meanings of "last" and "survival." With a modern interpretation filtered through Okude's lens, the brand offers bags that transcend national, historical, and gender boundaries while preserving traditional Japanese techniques. Its approach, which transcends fashion and craft, embodies a new way of being for a Japanese brand.
