Famous products from Noto, Kanazawa, and Kaga all gathered together at the "Ishikawa Products Exhibition" at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi

Mar 5, 2014

Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store will be holding the "Ishikawa Hyakumangoku Monogatari" exhibition, featuring approximately 50 renowned restaurants from Ishikawa Prefecture's Noto, Kanazawa, and Kaga regions, from March 5th to 10th at the event venue on the seventh floor of the main building.

Otomo-ro, a long-established restaurant founded in 1830, has served as a chef in the Kaga domain's dining room for generations, and continues to pass down traditional Kaga cuisine to the present day. The restaurant will offer a kaiseki gozen meal for dine-in, featuring dishes such as jibuni, a signature Kaga dish made with chicken and Kanazawa's specialty sudare-fu (wheat gluten), stewed shiitake mushrooms, and the traditional dish of "steamed sea bream," an essential dish for celebratory occasions. In addition, famous Japanese confectionery shops will be performing demonstrations, including Nakataya, famous for its kintsuba (sweet potato buns); Morihachi, a long-established Japanese confectionery shop purveyor to the Kaga domain; and Shibafune Koide, popular for its ginger-flavored rice crackers favored by the domain government. Enjoy fresh seafood from the Sea of Japan, including Funaraku's sushi rolls, which bring out the flavor of premium blackthroat seaperch; and Kanazawa Tamazushi's Hyakumangoku Kobore Sushi, a bowl of their specialty sweet shrimp, sea urchin, and tuna. Also featured are local sake from Ishikawa Prefecture that further enhances the delicacies of the Hokuriku region. Rare local sakes such as Kurumata Sake Brewery's Tengumai and Fukumitsuya's Kaga Washi will be available, along with Kobori Sake Brewery's Banzairaku Kaga Umeshu, aged for 17 years, which will be available for pre-sale at the store. In addition, many renowned craft shops, including those selling Kaga Yuzen, Wajima lacquerware, and Kutani ware, will also be exhibiting. The exhibition will feature exquisite pieces that combine tradition and modernity, such as a "Kutani Wine Glass" for Burgundy, with a magnificent stem decorated by Nakata Kingyoku, a leading expert in the traditional Kutani ware painting technique of "Aochibu."
