On March 20th, COREDO Muromachi 3 will open its Tokyo branch of Tsuruya Yoshinobu, a long-established Japanese confectionery shop that has been in business since the Edo period. Located just inside the entrance, Kayu Chaya offers a unique style where confectioners create Japanese sweets right before your eyes. Rather than just watching, you can chat with the confectioners and learn the stories behind the sweets. The menu changes with the seasons, and until April 15th, the shop will be offering the pink cherry blossom-shaped "Fukuzakura." The classic "Yuzu Mochi" (boxed ¥1,000 / single serving ¥230) is made with fragrant green yuzu before it ripens to a yellow color and is sprinkled with Shikoku's traditional sugar, "Wasanbon." Also available is the "Seasonal Anmitsu" (¥1,100), a diced agar-agar confection topped with seasonal fruits, shiratama (rice flour dumplings), and yuzu mochi. The bun uses "itokanten" (azuki bean paste) to create a refreshing taste. You can choose between white and brown syrup, but the white syrup is recommended to fully enjoy the flavor of the ingredients.
The Tokyo store will also offer a number of exclusive products. The "TSURUYA Pancake" (1,300 yen) uses the chewy dough of the store's popular Japanese sweet "Tsubara Tsubara" and is topped with French "Échiré butter" and "anko paste." The adorable "IROMONAKA" (2,300 yen) monaka (waffle wafer) resembles a macaron. This monaka can be customized with five different dough types and three different bean pastes.
In addition to Japanese sweets, the store will also offer Tokyo-exclusive bento boxes, such as the "Shokado Bento" (2,800 yen) and "TSURUYA Bento" (1,500 yen), created by the renowned Kyoto cuisine restaurant "Tankuma Kitaten." The food is presented with carefully selected seasonal ingredients and is visually appealing. Tankuma Kitaten is also planning to hold cooking classes at the restaurant in the future.
