Gucci and Tadanori Yokoo's connection dates back to the window art project that marked the opening of Gucci Shibuya Miyashita Park in 2020. This solo exhibition will further develop that dynamic and creative collaboration.

The theme of this exhibition, "Incomplete," is based on Yokoo's consistently held aesthetic belief that artistic creativity resides not in the moment of completion, but rather in the state of being incomplete. For approximately 60 years since the 1960s, Yokoo has produced numerous works, making full use of ever-changing styles and themes spanning the universe. He has never been content with achieving a single completed form, but has always continued to transform and challenge himself. This attitude resonates with the ever-evolving nature of the Gucci brand.

Never content with a single "completeness," Yokoo has always challenged himself with new possibilities for expression, undergoing repeated transformations and continuing his "unfinished" "journey." Titled "Tadanori Yokoo: Unfinished Self-Portraits - A Journey to Myself," this exhibition is curated by art critic Yusuke Minami and will feature approximately 30 works by Yokoo, centered around themes evocative of "journey," including six of his latest works, including self-portraits and family portraits, which will be shown for the first time. Additionally, a rooftop space specially opened for this exhibition will feature a dynamic reproduction of Yokoo's installation of bright red scaffolding, a symbolic representation of the "unfinished" image that caused a sensation at the 1970 Osaka Expo. Furthermore, from April 26 to June 22, 2025, the Setagaya Art Museum in Tokyo will host "Yokoo Tadanori: River of Linked Paintings," allowing visitors to simultaneously enjoy Yokoo's work in Tokyo. In addition to the exhibition at the Gucci Ginza Gallery, Gucci will also be developing an art project in Osaka, a city attracting global attention. As the first fashion brand to serve as an official partner of the Setouchi Triennale 2025, Gucci will further strengthen the connection between art and fashion in 2025 through multifaceted initiatives linking the Setouchi area, Tokyo, and Osaka.
