Maison Kitsune has unveiled its Spring/Summer 2017 women's pre-collection, "Party With Maison Kitsune," inspired by the satirical comedy of film director and actor Jacques Tati. The collection, inspired by 1950s chic elements and imbued with French femininity, features a variety of pieces perfect for summer in the city or vacations at the beach. The base colors are neutral, including black, navy, gray, and beige, enhanced by vivid primary colors reminiscent of the legendary Villa Arpel, featured in Jacques Tati's film "Mon Oncle." A unique contrast is created by mixing light, natural materials with modern, technical materials. The fish fountain sculpture from Villa Arpels is incorporated into an all-over jacquard print using lamé thread, and the protagonist, Monsieur Hulot, is reminiscent of Maison Kitsune's iconic fox. Graphics from another Jacques Tati work, "Playtime," also feature. City illustrations, including signs and symbols, add rhythm to the collection. Stripes, checks, and polka dots are also used in the graphics, and trompe l'oeil details on blouses and dresses create the illusion of pockets, yokes, and collarettes.
