"Observation and Craft: What if Words and Things Intersect?", an exhibition that looks at "words" and "things" from a new perspective, will be held from July 15th to August 28th at ATELIER MUJI on the second floor of MUJI Yurakucho, located inside Infos Yurakucho in Yurakucho, Tokyo.
Words and things are everywhere in our lives and have become indispensable. We all casually choose, acquire, and use them in our daily lives, but is that really all there is to the relationship between people, "words," and "things?"
The exhibition features two artists: the Dai Nippon Type Association, an experimental typography group that explores new concepts of letters by deconstructing, combining, and reconstructing Japanese and alphabetic characters; and GELCHOP, a 3D modeling group of three crafting enthusiasts, who will present works that freely manipulate letters and products. This exhibition allows visitors to make unexpected new discoveries by carefully observing familiar words and objects without being bound by the invisible frameworks of preconceived notions and common sense.
As a related event, a talk show by the Dai Nippon Typo Association will be held from 7pm to 8:30pm on July 20th. In addition, a workshop by GELCHOP will be held from 2pm to 3:30pm on July 27th, where participants can bring their own tableware and containers made from ceramic, wood, metal, bamboo, plastic, glass, etc. and make lamps to decorate their dining tables.
