SBGC238To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the birth of <Grand Seiko>, a representative Japanese wristwatch, Seiko Watch Corporation will release a limited-edition Spring Drive model featuring a "lion armor" design motif, expressing Grand Seiko's determination to continue to strive for ever greater heights. The suggested retail price is 5.06 million yen (tax included) (4.6 million yen excluding tax).
Grand Seiko was born in 1960, bringing together the best of the technology and craftsmanship of the time. Since then, the brand has built its legacy through tireless progress in pursuit of and realizing the essential qualities of a watch—accuracy, legibility, and beauty—at a high level, striving to create the finest wristwatches. This year marks the 60th anniversary of its founding.
[Product Features]
A massive case embodies the strength and dignity of the lion, which represents the brand's spirit.
The lion emblem appeared on the case back with the birth of the first Grand Seiko in 1960. The determination to create the finest wristwatches remains etched in Grand Seiko even 60 years later. The wide contact area between the case and the wrist and the low center of gravity of the case express a powerful expression, as if the lion's paws were grasping the arm, while also providing a comfortable fit. The lugs of the case, which resemble the lion's claws, are polished to a distortion-free mirror finish and hairline finish using Zaratsu polishing. The case design, with its sharp, robust silhouette, exudes the bravery of a lion.
The "lion armor" design motif expresses Grand Seiko's craftsmanship
The design motif is inspired by the "lion armor" worn by Japanese warlords of the Sengoku period, whose stoic fighting quest for the top continues to inspire people today. This limited-edition 60th anniversary model embodies Grand Seiko's tireless commitment to challenge itself. The crocodile leather strap features a technique called "valley-ire," in which pink gold paint is applied to the grooves of the mottled leather, expressing the dignified strength of armor that has stood the test of time.
The dial color is "victory color (※1)," a color favored by samurai.
The dial features an organic pattern that represents the powerful, flowing mane of a lion. The dial color is inspired by the indigo dye color of victory, which was a favorite decoration for the armor of warlords heading into battle.
