■ "Writing a Moment"

Yoshimasu Gozo is one of Japan's leading, cutting-edge poets. In addition to writing poetry and performing recitations, he has also expanded his creative endeavors beyond the boundaries of poetry, engaging in a variety of media, including photography, sculpture, and video. Yoshimasu Gozo's "Writing a Moment," published by edition.nord, is a limited-edition collection of "Polaroid photographs as poems," which he began taking in 1999. Starting in the early 2000s, Yoshimasu's works, which overlap Polaroid photographs taken during his travels with words written on the spot, were serialized in the weekly magazine Asahi Graph. Edition.nord has faithfully reproduced all 74 of these Polaroid works using the latest printing and processing techniques. The resulting prints vividly convey the form of the images and words in Ichiyo's works, as well as the materiality of the words in Yoshimasu's works. Actual Polaroid photographs are on display at the exhibition "Yoshimasu Gozo 'Writing of a Moment,'" running until August 7th at NADiff Gallery. This exhibition is recommended for viewing in conjunction with the "Voice Noma: Yoshimasu Gozo, a Whole-Body Poet" exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.
