To commemorate the release of "VANISHING POINT," a documentary film about Blankey Jet City, a representative rock band of the 1990s, UNDERCOVER, the label behind Jun Takahashi, will release limited-edition T-shirts. Available in white and black, each priced at ¥5,500, the T-shirts will be available at all UNDERCOVER stores starting January 26, 2013, to coincide with the film's release.
Blankey Jet City is a rock band formed in Tokyo in 1990 by three members: Kenichi Asai, Toshiyuki Terui, and Tatsuya Nakamura. They won the title of "6th Grand Ika-Ten King" on the TBS audition program "Yuji Miyake's Ikasu Band Tengoku," and their first nationwide tour saw sold-out shows everywhere. In 1991, they appeared in Paris Fashion Week as models for Yohji Yamamoto's collection, and also performed on stage at the Tokyo Fashion Week held at the Jingu Stadium. The band enjoyed a string of hits, including "Warui Hitotachi" (Warui Hitotachi) and "Akai Tambourine," which had to be revised for major label release due to lyric issues. However, in 2000, they suddenly announced their disbandment in a newspaper ad, stating, "We've made our best album, so we're breaking up." "VANISHING POINT" is a completely unreleased documentary film that follows Blankey Jet City's final tour. It follows their final tour, "LOVE IS DIE DIE IS A CHANGE," which began in May 2000, and continues through their tour finale, "LAST DANCE," held at Yokohama Arena in July of the same year. Directed by Yutaka Onaga, the filmmaker behind Blankey Jet City's videos, the film will be released for a limited time at Shibuya Cine Quinto and Shinjuku Piccadilly from January 26, 2013, with the DVD set to be released at Lawson & HMV on January 30.
