Hummel launches peace uniforms designed with high school girls from the atomic bomb-hit areas, hoping for a peaceful future without war

Since 2015, the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing, Hummel has been releasing "peace uniforms" that promote peace through sports. This year, marking the 75th anniversary of the atomic bombing, the brand has unveiled a peace uniform designed in collaboration with students from Hiroshima Bunkyo University High School.

Peace uniforms representing war and peace
The peace uniforms this time were designed by 11 female high school students from Hiroshima. As a school located in Hiroshima, the city where the girls attend, the school is working to communicate and consider ideas about peace.

In line with these school initiatives, soccer club advisor Toshihiro Matsuki approached Hummel about wanting to carry out similar activities in the "Sports and Culture Class," which includes 11 third-year soccer club members, and this is how the two schools decided to work together on this project.

In class, each student thought about peace and drew rough drafts, leading to in-depth discussions. A Hummel representative also joined the class to decide on the design.

Finally, the uniforms, inspired by the themes of war and peace, were completed.

The field jerseys are orange with an image of the flames of the atomic bomb and the beautiful autumn leaves of Hiroshima.
The goalkeeper jerseys are blue with an image of the river where many people died and the rich sea of Hiroshima.

This is what the energetic new Peace uniform looks like when worn. It suits everyone.
We have created a peace uniform that will give people an opportunity to think again about peace
After the press conference announcing the peace uniform, a floral tribute was offered at Peace Park and a peace match was held in which the uniform was worn for the first time.

Vice-captain Ogata Ayaka said, "We hope that by wearing the uniforms and playing in the high school championships and when playing against teams from other prefectures, it will give opposing teams an opportunity to think about peace as well."

Project leader Oda Yuri shared her thoughts, saying, "In soccer, we share and respect each other's opinions to create something. We want to use what we've learned this time, wear this peace uniform, and perform on a national stage."

Now, 75 years after the end of the war, this has been an opportunity for both the girls and us to think again about war and peace. We kick off with the hope of a peaceful future without war!
