"Tearful Treasures: Clay, Deadlines, and 14 Years," showcasing clay works by actor Jin Katagiri, will open at Shibuya Parco Museum on the 5th. Inspired by a suggestion from his comedy duo partner Kentaro Kobayashi, "Why not try putting clay on something every month?", Katagiri began his magazine serialization, "Nendo-do." While battling deadlines and occasionally losing, he has continued to produce works monthly for 14 years. Nearly all of his existing works, both old and new, will be on display, including "Dryasaurus," a dinosaur with hot air blowing from its head, and "Flame Sword Girigiri-kun," a flaming sword that produces the familiar soda-flavored ice cream. At the venue, visitors can enjoy audio commentary from Katagiri himself by scanning the QR code provided with the exhibition with their smartphone. Katagiri, whose deadline is approaching on the 22nd of this month, will make irregular appearances at the special "Deadline Workshop" to take on the public challenge of completing his latest work. A book compiling his work to date and original merchandise commemorating the exhibition will also be sold exclusively at the venue. Born in 1973, Katagiri formed the comedy duo "Ramens" with Kobayashi while attending art school, and gained popularity for their unique worldview. He currently appears on "Shakin!" (NHK Educational TV) and "Elekata no Konto Taro" (TBS Radio). He will appear in "Lemmings: Take Me to the Ends of the World," a play written by Terayama Shuji, which will open at Parco Theater on the 21st of this month.
