Tokyo Station becomes a fantastic screen. "Tokyo Michi Terrace 2012" is held.

Dec 18, 2012

The light festival "Tokyo Michi Terrace 2012" will be held in the Marunouchi area of Tokyo from the 21st to the 28th. The "Tokyo Hikari Vision," in which the Marunouchi Station building of Tokyo Station is transformed into a projection mapping screen, and the "Starlight Walk," in which a mosaic-patterned tower creates a light and shadow effect on the street, will light up the area around Tokyo Station with a series of illuminated displays.

Projection mapping is a visual expression that projects computer-generated images onto three-dimensional objects, synchronizing the real and the virtual. It is used in art installations and stage productions. In September, Tokyo Station held a video show called "Tokyo Station Vision" using this technology.

The video creation for Tokyo Hikari Vision was handled by Ryotaro Muramatsu. In addition to his work as an actor, he also works in video production, and has worked in everything from art direction for television and promotional videos to film direction. He has produced both short and feature films, and has been nominated for and won awards at 48 international film festivals, including the World Fest Houston Grand Prix for "BLUE." He began researching projection mapping in 2010 and has released music videos using the technique.

Tokyo Hikari Vision is open from around 6:00 PM to 7:40 PM, screening approximately 10-minute video works as appropriate. Starlight Walk is lit up from 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM.
