The 7th Tsubaki-kai Group Exhibition is currently being held at the Shiseido Gallery. Pursuing "Beginner's Spirit" through the experiences of 3.11

Apr 17, 2013

The Shiseido Gallery in Ginza, Tokyo, is currently holding the "Tsubaki-kai Exhibition 2013: Beginner's Spirit" through June 23rd.

All five members of the newly established Seventh Tsubaki-kai, including artist and essayist Genpei Akasegawa, photographer Naoya Hatakeyama, sculptor Rei Naito, and contemporary artists Zon Ito and Ryoko Aoki, will be exhibiting this year. Each of the five members experienced the 3/11 disaster from different perspectives and places. Starting this year, they will pursue the theme of "Beginner's Spirit," which they all agreed upon, through annual exhibitions that will continue for five years. The logo and overall graphics for this exhibition were created by graphic designer Masayoshi Nakajo.

The Tsubaki-kai group exhibition was founded in 1947 when the Shiseido Gallery resumed its activities after a temporary hiatus during World War II. Named after Shiseido's corporate logo, the flowering camellia, the group has continued for nearly 70 years, with members changing over time. Up until the 6th Tsubaki-kai in 2010, a total of 80 artists had participated, including Umehara Ryuzaburo, Foujita Tsuguharu, and Yasui Sotaro.
