Neil Barrett was born in England in 1965. In addition to "Neil Barrett," which is shown at Milan Fashion Week, he also runs his second line, "BlackBarrett By Neil Barrett," in collaboration with Sanyo Shokai.
Born into a family of tailors, he graduated from London's prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art, and gained experience at Gucci and Prada. He launched his own label in 1999.
His designs are characterized by a mix of contrasting elements, such as military and sports influences and different materials, based on tailoring. He is also renowned for his leather work, with his signature item being a buffalo leather blouson.
In 2008, he opened a street-level store in Tokyo's Aoyama district. The interior was designed by Zaha Hadid, a world-renowned architect who won the competition for the new National Stadium. Two flowing artificial marble partitions, which are neither sculptures nor displays, occupy the space. Since then, Zaha has been in charge of all Neil store designs.
