Gifu-based textile manufacturer Mitsuboshi Yarn has launched its own brand, "MITSUBOSHI1887." The brand's concept is "Let the Material Do the Talking." It means "bringing out the best in materials and letting them speak for themselves. As a textile manufacturer with over 100 years of sincere and honest craftsmanship, we want to offer products that combine classic yet modern elements, beloved for everyday use, using our proven techniques and high-quality materials, backed by our long history," says Shingo Iwata, president and CEO of Mitsuboshi Yarn Co., Ltd. Founded in 1887, the company is a high-end fabric supplier to tailors and luxury brands. "Five years ago, I returned to the family business as the fifth generation president of the Mitsuboshi Textile Group, and as part of that mission, I adopted the corporate philosophy of 'creating a sustainable textile business,' and began exploring overseas markets," Iwata says. "We participated in Première Vision, the world's leading fabric exhibition held in France, and through our collaborations with many European and American luxury brands, we began to think that we wanted to make the finest Made-in-Japan fabrics available to a wider audience, not just the wealthy," says Mr. Ito.

The first collection consists of stoles, cut-and-sew tops, and gloves featuring 19th-century Art Nouveau floral and tile motifs in intarsia. The stoles are lined with a single layer of silk, a design unique to a fabric manufacturer.

After receiving positive reviews from buyers both in Japan and overseas when exhibited at the Paris joint exhibition "Tranoi," the brand expanded its exhibition to its Daikanyama showroom. Sales are scheduled to begin in August at department stores, select shops, and the official e-commerce site.

The brand has also released a video summarizing the manufacturing process of its signature knit intarsia fabric, a minute and a half in length. The beautiful footage, showing the inside of the knitting factory and the fabric being knitted, is a must-see.
