Daikanyama's Gallery Speak For will be hosting a solo exhibition by Wataru Furuta, "Boys and the Sea," from April 24th to May 6th. Furuta, a photographer and filmmaker, specializes in portraits of actors and other entertainers. Renowned for his ability to accurately capture the beauty of the roles his subjects are meant to portray and the director's intent, he has worked on a variety of sets, including television and film. The "Seascapes" series, which will be on display this time, is a collection of photographs that Furuta has been taking in his hometown of Hayama for the past 10 years. The images capture the beauty of both calm and turbulent seas with an innocent stance. The photographs also capture the growth of his three sons, revealing a kind of diary-like inner insight and a dialogue with the sea as he sees his daily life. Since this series primarily consists of private works, most of the works will be on public display for the first time. The venue will exhibit approximately 40 photographs selected by the artist himself from his archives. In addition to the collection of works of the same title and prints, bodyboards and beach sandals designed by Furuta will also be on sale.
During the exhibition, a gallery talk will be held by Furuta and radio personality Hideshima Fumika from 3:00 PM on April 25th.
