Give the gift of a life with plants. Botanical gifts proposed by "SOLSO HOME"

Apr 27, 2015

As you get older, the opportunities for gift-giving increase. This month, we're introducing recommended flower gifts that add a personal touch. This time, instead of flowers, we're focusing on botanical gifts, which are suitable for both men and women. We asked Takayuki Konno of "SOLSO HOME," which opened on March 4th in the Living Decor section on the 5th floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building, for advice.

The shop, located on the interior floor, features chests and racks of plants, allowing you to choose a gift that matches the recipient's preferred interior. The store offers a wide variety of expressive items, from large, imposing trees to succulents that add a touch of flair to a room. "At SOLSO, we select plants that have been grown in a stable environment and have a striking silhouette," says Konno. The store is filled with succulents, ornamental plants, air plants, and other plants of various sizes and types. Our first selection is a potted "Dorimiopsis" (4,000 yen), a bulbous succulent native to Africa, planted in a SOLSO original pot. The word "BOTANICAL" written on the transparent pot adds an accent. The clear pot also allows for a close look at the soil and roots. We recommend viewing this houseplant in a relatively bright spot indoors. SOLSO HOME carries not only real plants but also artificial flowers and plants that can be enjoyed as interior décor, so you're sure to find a gift for someone on a long business trip or who is often away from home. Our second selection is a terrarium gift, which has become popular in recent years. A teardrop-shaped glass container contains white sand and a Tillandsia with flowers (6,700 yen/container and sand included). Hanging the terrarium from the ceiling or furniture will gently sway and change appearance. Konno explains that when it comes to caring for tillandsia, "take them out of their container about once a week and dip them in water. Leave them overnight, drain the water, dry them in a well-ventilated place, then put them back in the container. If that's too much trouble, you can also use a spray bottle to keep the container hydrated."

A life with plants. If you're looking for a botanical gift that will make you reflect on the time you've spent there, be sure to visit SOLSO HOME.
