■ "A Life with Camera" by Ueda Yoshihiko

Ueda Yoshihiko is a photographer who has been active at the forefront of photography since his debut in 1982. A comprehensive collection of his work spanning the past 30 years, from his debut to his latest work, has now been released. Beginning with portraits of celebrities like Andy Warhol and photographer Annie Leibovitz from the 1980s, the book features a wide range of motifs, including still lifes of fruit and seashells, family photographs, museum specimens and taxidermy, deep forests, and even nighttime ocean shots from 2013. It also includes a diverse range of advertising photography. As Ueda himself states, "No matter what I photograph, my gaze is always present," whether it's people, still lifes, or landscapes, each possesses a certain sense of distance and tranquil beauty, captivating the viewer with each page. In his preface to this collection, internationally renowned curator and art historian Hans Ulrich Obrist writes, "This retrospective photobook reaches its final destination with a series of photographs of the sea at night. At this point, photography loses its form and everything returns to pitch black." This 586-page book looks back on Yoshihiko Ueda's work and also hints at future developments.
