Viabus New Shop, Featuring a Giant Clock, Opens with the slogan "Enjoy Your Time and Life"

Apr 13, 2015

Onward Global Fashion's new concept store, PENDULE VIA BUS STOP, opened in Minami-Aoyama on April 10th. The two-story store features shoes on the first floor, stocking a total of 20 brands, including Chloe, Marc Jacobs, and Proenza Schouler. The entrance also features a space dedicated to showcasing fashion and culture. Other attractions include a flower shop produced by Kojiro Onishi, a cosmetics shop purveyor to the Dutch royal family, and a unique Japanese fusion restaurant featuring "vegetable-meets-rice balls" created by en boca, an Italian restaurant renowned for its vegetable-focused cuisine with locations in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Karuizawa. The second floor primarily stocks apparel, offering a wide range of items from affordable to luxurious, including brands like SONIA BY SONIA RYKIEL, Jil Sander Navy, and FENDI. The adjacent terrace features a book corner produced by Books Kinokuniya Tokyo, where customers can enjoy reading on the terrace and purchase selected book-related items. The glass façade is adorned with a gigantic pendulum clock, which also gives the store its name. The unforgettable piece, "AoyAmA," was designed by artist Philippe LEBRU exclusively for the store and crafted by UTINAM in Besançon, France, over a six-month period. Installed at a height of 9 meters, it is one of the world's largest mechanical pendulum clocks, measuring 5 meters high, 4 meters wide, and weighing 1 ton. It meets earthquake resistance standards for its location in Japan. "Time is like life. This piece is inspired by the growth of a tree or plant, connected to the gears and satellites like branches. The clock is engraved with the phrase, 'We are children nurtured by time in the cycle of life,' in French. It conveys the message that we should cherish the time we have for ourselves and enjoy time and life," says Philippe.

The piece's distinctive feature is its dynamically swinging pendulum. "The lever that drives the pendulum is powered by gravity, and we developed special technology to ensure it can operate even in typhoons and strong winds. The red satellite gear rotates inward every second and completes one rotation in one minute. The multiple gears and satellite gears are linked to each other, expressing the image of a shop made up of various contents, like this one (shoes, clothing, cosmetics, flowers, restaurant, etc.)."

There are currently only three of his giant clocks in the world. Japan is the only place outside of France where they can be seen. Enjoy the leisurely passage of time in a bright, open, and green space, surrounded by fashion and a giant pendulum clock.
